Mite #2 records 6-1 win over Huskies #2

When you’re a Mite, it apparently takes ‘four’titude to win on a school night.
Jaguar Mite #2 had plenty of it Thursday evening, Oct. 6.
On the strength of the play of team members with at least one giant 4 adorning the backs of their jerseys --  including a hat trick from #49 Blake Brenczewski – the Jaguars claimed their second straight win, a 6-1 victory over Huskies #2 on Inwood ice.
Lukas Bomba (#44) got things rolling for the Jaguars a little more than eight minutes into the game. Off an assist from Ryan Louthan (#4), Bomba gave the home team a 1-0 lead with 2:57 showing on the clock.
Just 83 seconds later, the Jaguar lead was stretched to two when Brenczewski scored his first goal of the contest on assists from Louthan and Bomba.
The first period ended with the Jaguars on top 2-0, but the margin was cut in half just 54 seconds into the second stanza as the Huskies’ Joseph Crowley collected a rebound following a point-blank save by Jaguar goalie Luke Brezezkinski and found the back of the net. Ryan Brown was credited with the assist.
The gap remained just one for nearly the next nine minutes, until the 1:07 mark of the second period. It was then that defenseman Nathan Guseman (#7) departed from the games “4” trend and scored an unassisted tally to make the Jaguar lead 3-1.
That margin stood for just 24 second, until Brenczewski extended the lead to three with his second goal of the game. The assists went to the defensive tandem of Dylan Graziano, who had popped the puck lose along the boards on the defensive end of the ice, and Emily Stornello.
The score was extended to 5-1 just 30 seconds into the third period by Louthan’s unassisted goal, and Brenczewski closed things out by completing his hat trick with 2:12 to play in the game. Louthan was credited with the assist.
The second straight victory for Mite #2 moved their seeding round record in the Northern Illinois Hockey League’s Silver Level Blue Tier to 2-1. The Jaguar squad will next be in action at 5:15 p.m. Sunday evening, Oct. 9, when they play their final seeding round home game at Inwood against St. Jude #2.
